Disapearing Ocurrences for Recurring meetings

Hello,
(Configuration=Exchange 5.5 & Outlook 2000)

For a while we have been experiencing issues with Disappearing appoinments.
The scenario involves a Delegate/Owner configuration whereby a delegate
accepts on behalf of the Calendar owner (normal jazz) and over time the
Calendar owners expereriences disappearing occurances. The entire series does
not disappear, just the actual occurance and causes the person to miss the
meeting.

From a server side perspective, the meeting appears recoverable only as if
it was hard deleted in the normal sense of SHIFT+delete. I have no record of
the occurance to know why it happens or what triggered it.

Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions

Do you also have Blackberry users? What version of the Blackberry
Enterprise Server are you using?

4.5, I did suspect blackberry as the reason but it happens for non blackberry
users and mailboxes as well. Some of the Execs though are admins for both
Blackberry and Non Blackberry users. The only common factor is the admins
themselves

Was there a response to this thread? Have we figured out what the problem is
here? I had this happen to me quite a few times and it makes the admin look
like a jerk. Not good.

I am beginning to see the same problem for regular meetings too.

The managers I support use treos and blackberrys, they also use mulitple
machines. Does this make a difference?

I just got out of a meeting discussing this very problem!

We have been on Exchange since 5.5 in 1997, now on Exchange 2003, and
this has always been a problem. The only constant that I can figure is
that it happens to recurring meetings that have been modified. (It
happens more often to delegated calendars, but not exclusively. It is
probably that those folks who have the luxury of delegating their
calendar spend a lot more time in recurring meetings. Also, this was a
pre-BlackBerry problem, and in any event I only have 20 BB users out of
about 2000 total accounts.

I've never gotten MS to directly admit that this problem exists, but
it obviously does, as evidenced by posts like this. However, in this
QDoc (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899704/en-us) discussing calendar
problems, including missing meetings, MS basically says that the only
safe way to modify a recurring meeting is to delete it, wait for it to
disappear from all calendars, and re-create it. While this is total BS
from an operational perspective, from a technical perspective they may
be right.

This bug has been around for at least nine years. MS should fix it -
their workaround is the height of bogosity.

The GlobalObjectID property added to Outlook 2003 SP2 and also there in
Outlook 2007 is the fix for the problem. Unfortunately the fix won't be
back-ported to earlier versions of Outlook.

Hi,

I'm seeing this problem with Exchange 2003 SP1 and Outlook 2003 SP2 as the
client. The similarities are delegates and Blackberries (server v. 3.6).

Are there any other known issues here?

Thanks,
Mindy

I'm seeing it with Exchange 2003 SP2 and Outlook 2003 SP2. It is still not
fixed, help please!

We've just upgraded to Office 2007 with SP1 and we are seeing this very issue
with disappearing meetings when a meeting request (not just recurring) is
changed. We see there is a fix for it in Office 2007 SP2, but that is an
extensive patch that will require substantial testing on our part before we
can apply. Is the fix for this issue contained in any single patch that we
could apply quickly?

Thank you so much, Diane... this will really help us by fixing the missing
meetings issue while giving us time to adequately test Office SP2!

I am also seeing all the things being mentioned here, with a couple of other
variables, one being that they are using labels on all calendar entries so
that the manager can glance at this calendar and know if he needs to attend
the meetings. He had customised the labels to what he was looking for so we
had the PA create the same custom labels just in case that was the issue
which hasnt helped. It has been noted that the issue only happens for old
recurring meetings, and it can be the the Pa or the manager that accepts the
meeting before the meeting either deletes itself from his calendar or doesnt
show the updates. Of course there is a blackberry in the loop which also
creates the other old problem when trying to accept meetings ( the error is
something along the lines of the item has chanced or they dont have
permission )

I'm not finding that SP2 for Outlook 2007 has made any difference. My
meetings keep dissappearing from my calendar, despite applying SP2. The odd
thing is, I can create a new instance of the recurring meeting log out and
log back in and certain occurrences will just drop off my calendar. What a
pain!

Do you sync with a handheld device?
