Disabling startup programs.

Can someone please tell me how to disable a program from starting up
automaticly when I start my computer? I know that I can use the task bar to
shut something down say like kodak software or whatever, but some things I
would like to start manually.

Great little startup control utility from Mike Lin: Startup Control Panel.

It's free (shareware), you can download at http:\\www.mlin.net
I believe.

the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes...known instruments

preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."

1. Create a System Restore Point: just in case you make a blunder
2. Click START> RUN
3. Type in MSCONFIG and press OK
4. Click on the Startup Tab
5. Unclick those items that you choose not to run - only unclick one at a time
6. Restart the PC and be sure that it has the desired affect

repeat all steps until you have diabled all the items you need.

Mike;
Go to the specific program
Look in Settings or Options.
Then look for something like "Load at boot", "Run at start" or something
similar.
Disable them.

Do not be tempted to use MSCONFIG to permanently stop a program from
starting.
MSCONFIG Start-up is intended as a troubleshooting tool.
Also some programs will recreate the entry if it is unchecked in MSCONFIG.

Thank You Very Much, Jupiter Jones. Someone else posted that I use M S
configure, I am sure they were trying to help, but the advice may have gotten
me into some problems. I am a novice so I don't need anymore complications.
Again Thank You Very Much..

Mike,

Using MSConfig to manage Startup applications, won't cause any problems. MSConfig can manage the startup configuration effectively, BUT it cannot control a third-party application that may be re-populating an entry to the startup, everytime. That's the reason why you should check the corresponding application's options first, before trying MSConfig.
