Disable Fax

L

Luis

Please,

I don't send fax using Outlook XP and I want disable this
funcion.

When I create a new e-mail and consult my Address Book, it
shows SMTP address and Fax.

How can I hide FAX only in Address Book?

Tks,

Luis

This has nothing to do with whether you have fax software enabled or not.
The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

That works fine, but doesn't this new "feature" pretty
much rule out ever using the great "contact name auto
complete" function in the TO: line and other address
fields? Now it seems like you have to load the Address
Book pop-up everytime you want to send an EMAIL.

First, this isn't new. The Outlook Address Book has always done this.
Second, autocomplete does not use the address book. It uses a cache of names
you populate as you send messages.

Even autoresolve doesn't fail with fax numbers - it chooses the first email
address as default.
