DirectX 9.0c

O

OG

I remember directX install taking a little while.
Certainly long enough to watch the blue progress bar zip
across the screen.

The last two times I installed DirectX 9.0c, it seemed to
install between blinks.

Is the 9.0c download from the MS directx site an upgrade,
req a previous version of 9.0? Or is it a self contained
install, as I remember all other versions of directx
being.

I have the runtime version, the one that doesn't require
internet access if that makes a difference. I am worried
that something is really wrong.

Thanks in advance.

I installed SP2 a while ago and I'm experiencing the same
problem you are. It seems that a lot of us(if not all)
using SP2 are unable to install Direct X 9.0c. To me it
seems the installer doesn't recognize version 4.09.00.0903
(direct X 9.0b) as an older version and consequently
doesn't install.
I'm hoping Microsoft would respond soon and solve the
issue.

What version do you have? start>run>"dxdiag" check the verstion number at
the bottom.

Hi I am having a similar problem with directx 9.0c. I
downloaded it completely but at the very end an error
message reads "A cabinet file necessary for installation
cannot be trusted".
I currently have directx 8.1 installed...
your help would be appreciated

I suggest posting in microsoft.public.directx.misc

include your dxdiag.txt and your directx.log

Hi,

SP2 updates DirectX to version 9.0c. This could explain
why you're experiencing the situation you described. :)

Hi Nikolai,

If you feel that's possible, uninstall SP 2 and reinstall the
full version from Microsoft's servers after you install DX 9.

You're posting from the web-based interface, which is difficult at best. If
you can, use Outlook Express (or other real news reader) and simply set up a
news account for msnews.microsoft.com as the server. There is no logon, no
password, and it is free to anyone in the world (except those in corporate
structures where newsgroups are blocked). Once you set up the account in OE
(or other news reader), the system will download all the Microsoft
newsgroups available, and you only need to do a search for DirectX to see
what's available. If you don't know how to set it up, look in OE's Help
section for "news."

No one has an answer there yet, either. Very frustrating
as clearly serveral people have this problem. I'm also
running sp2 and not able to upgrade to 9c (installer
successfully completes, immediately, and I'm still left
with 9b). Somehow the 9c installer thinks we've already
upgraded, but the dxdiag still lists 9b and the games
won't run.

Hi Rusty,

Have you tried installing DirectX 9.0b again?
If that works, the next step would be to upgrade to 9.0c.

Jimmy, thanks for the suggestion. I successfully

Fixed! Thanks for the suggestion. I think the problem
could be traced back to a botched SP2 install. Wiping it
