Directory Service failed to create the object

I set up a separate domain on w2k advanced server sp4 (all updates applied)
called "vaudeville" and installed ISA Enterprise firewall, and it works
fine. Machine name Costello.

Ready for phase 2 (going for load balancing), I have "Abbott" all loaded up,
also w2k advanced server sp4.

DNS is pointed at Costello.

But when I dcpromo, exiting domain, I get...

"The Directory Service failed to create the object for CN = NTDS
Settings,CN=ABBOTT,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configu
ration,DC=vaudeville on server COSTELLO..."

Any ideas? Googling has led me on a merry chase, but no working answers.

Single Label domain name ?
Could be the problem.

I'm beginning to agree. I applied som MS fixes that are supposed to address
that, but to no avail.

My plan is to drop back to ISA Server (no AD integration). Goodbye
vaudeville.
