Direct computer connection HELP!

I would like to connect my new Windows XP computer to my old Windows 98
computer in order to transfer 30 Gs of files to the new computer. I can not
use a moveable media because the old CD burner only works occassionally. I
have tried a direct connection using usb cables(USB Directlink) and trying to
use the New Connection Wizard. When I get to the Advanced Connection Options
the "Connect directly to another computer is faded out and will not let me
select it. Am I using the correct cable? My new computer has no Serial
ports. How am I going to get these files?!!!

I believe I have found a simple solution to the file transfer problem. I
will rent a 5G box on the internet for one month. Upload my files from my
old computer and download them into my new computer! lt will take several
times to get all the files transfed but so much easier.
