digital image 2006

Can anyone help me with this: I just bought Digital Image 2006. Loaded it
into my Dell laptop no problem. I am running into problems with my desktop
HP. It seems that there is some conflict with the CD burner drivers (or so it
seems). When I load the program my computer can no longer recognize my DVD or
CD burners. Can anyone point me in a direction towards solving this puzzle?
Thank you in advance for all help with this.

Can you tell us what the problem is?
1. You are trying to copy to the CD or DVD and if so what are you trying to
copy and what software are you using, XP for CD or what for DVD?
2. You are trying to read a CD or a DVD?

The situation is that I load the digital image 2006 and my computer no longer
recognizes any of my disc drives (except my floppy disc drive). The last time
I loaded the program I watched my and when the instilation said "loading CD
burning drivers" (or something close to that) my windows explorer no longer
showed my e: or f: drives (Cd and DVD). I am using windows XP. It seems to me
(and I know little about computers) that a driver from DI 2006 is in conflict
with my drivers for CDR and DVD. Hummm, what do you think?

I just thought of this as well. Along with the CDR and the DVD(read only)
that came with the HP I have an external Sony DVD burner. I installed the
sony driver software for that. I do have difficulty at times have my computer
recognize that device. Frequently I have to reboot or have a DVD in the drive
for the computer to recognize it. I don't know if this may be related to the
problem I am now encountering with the DI 2006??

Which version of Digital Image 2006 are we
discussing? Suite or Standard?

Also can you please explain exactly what the
issue is? Are you saying your burners disappear
when you *install* Digital Image 2006 or when
you *run/open* Digital Image 2006?

Did you have any previous versions of Picture
It!/ Digital Image that you uninstalled when you
purchased the new version?

The following articles may offer some ideas but
I am not positive that they apply to your issue:

This is Digital Image Suite. What occurs is that I "lose" my CDR and DVD
drives when I install. I do have a Picture It 7. I have tried with it
installed and uninstalled. I will check out the articles you posted. Thanks
for your interest and help.

Now we see what the problem is. Don't think this kind of problem has been
reported before (John Inzer probably knows more) but DI 2006 is fairly new.
I had problems with it, it would not initiate "Start a new project". I
simply uninstalled via control panel and installed again and this solved the
problem.
I would uninstall DIS 2006 and see if you recover your drives.

Yves,
That is exactly what I did, I uninstalled and my drives are back. I have
installed and uninstalled a couple of times with the same results. I really
am not competent to go into the inner brain as some of the articles John
posted. I am hoping there is an easier answer.

Return the product. I may just be defective installation discs. It does
happen.

I have taken the program back and have tried another copy. Same results. I
just don't get it. Is there someone at Microsoft that I can talk to about
this???

Yves, I have discovered that Norton WinDoctor
can cause some problems with the Create A
Project option. Do you run WinDoctor and allow
it to choose the repair option?

John, Thanks for the info.
Yes I run Norton WinDoctor automatically every Friday and allow it to repair
all.
Not aware that this has ever created a problem.
The create a project option has been working correctly since
uninstalling/installing. So I will check Friday after running WinDoctor. If
this creates a problem I will let you know.

We did not mention to the original poster to disable Norton antivirus before
installing DIS2006. Long shot but this could be it.

Hi Yves,

I don't have all the answers yet, but I think the
particular WinDoctor issue I discovered applies
when more than one version of Digital Image is
installed.

I'll e-mail you a screenshot of the entries in
question. If you have more than one version of
Digital Image installed, there is more than
one suggested fix and Norton chooses the
incorrect one. The fix that works includes the
wording, "Digital Image 2006".

Functionality in DIS2006 can be restored simply
by undoing the incorrect fix.

Insert Shaped Text is also affected by this issue
and there may be others that I have not yet
identified.

BTW, it is specifically mentioned in a readme.txt
file on disk one of DIS2006 (and earlier versions)
that virus scanners and HP OfficeJets should be
disabled before installing the program. I don't think
this would be the cause of the OP's issue though.
The articles I posted may lead to the solution.
