Digital Camcorder as webcam

T

Tony Goodall

Messenger 6.0 is recognising my camcorder as webcam in
Audio/Video wizard.

When I go into Webcam settings, the screen is grey and I
cannot adjust.

When I start my webcam it is just a black screen.

Any ideas?

Camera is connected via Firewire.

Greetings Tony,

MSN Messenger 6 on Windows XP has two modes for video conversations. The first, is the
"Webcam" button, which is what is configured using the Webcam settings option and the second
is "Video Conference". The Audio/Video Tuning Wizard selects your device for both however.

Unfortunately the "Webcam" button/functionality can only use 'real' webcams -- it cannot use
DV inputs, video card inputs, or TV Tuners. Instead, click the Actions menu, then click
"Start Video Conference" and use that video conversation mode instead (which does support DV
inputs, etc.). In order for the Video Conference to be successful however, your contact must
be using Windows XP as well (although not necessarily MSN Messenger 6, MSN Messenger 5 and
Windows Messenger are also compatible with this).

Hi,
I have the same problem.
Instead of clicking the WEBCAM icon to start a conference,
go ACTION, START VIDEO CONFERENCE. This should do the
trick.
I also suggest you use Windows Messenger instead of MSN
messenger. With Windows Messenger, your camcorder will be
fully supported.
