Differences between ipaq and Axim and the CF

Dan

All,
We are experiencing a very strange issue; a CF application, written for and
tested on Dell Axim's (Pocket PC 2002) works as expected. We then began
testing on Compaq Ipaq's (5450 and some older models), all with Pocket PC
2002. The ipaq 5450 and Dell Axim's have the same specs (processor type and
speed, etc). The application will not run on the ipaqs; it fails during the
load sequence.

In debug mode, we isolated the issue around setting properties on the CFCOM
component (3rd party tool from Odyssey) which hosts the Windows Media
Control. As aforementioned, the exact same code base works as expected on
the Dells. As far as I know, the CF should behave the same regardless of
the hardware platform.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
-dan

We have; they replied that there should be no difference in behavior based
on manufacturer.

What about the object you are wrapping with CFCOM? Same GUID? Same name?
Present on the 2002 devices?

There was an update released for Media Player 8 :-
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/pocket/playerupdate.aspx

This is separate from the Media Player control. There is a possibility that
having this on some devices and not others could be causing different
behaviour between devices. What about other general updates to the Pocket
Pcs, there have been 3 end user updates for Pocket Pc 2002, which might
affect behaviour (the latest EUU3 included Media Player 8.5)

To determine if you have these updates look at the build number of Media
Player (Tools Menu > About). For example my Viewsonic has the latest 8.5
version which is build 12177, but my iPaq 36 series has version 8.0 build
0096.
