Dialog Boxes

When opening an existing word document, the following Dialog Box opens with:
"The command can not be performed because a dialog box is opened. Click, then close open dialog boxes to continue"
This is very annoying as I click ok the diaglog box closes and the word doc opens. Very frustrating. Any ideas on fixing this?

Hi Beth,
Thanks for your reply. I am opening existing documents from my documents or even those received from mail (Microsoft Outlook) It doesn't make any difference it always asks me to close opened dialog box
I ran winword /r and nothing happened. Sorry but was anything meant to occur when doing this?
Cheers

Nothing appears to happen when you run winword /r, but it "reregisters"
Word; that is, it reestablishes Word's association with the .doc and .dot
file types in the Windows Registry. Have you tried opening a Word doc since
running it?

Suzanne,

Yes I have opened many word doc since running and rerunning winword /r but nothing has changed. I am still asked to close the opened diolog box. I have reinstalled my Norton anti virus recently. Would this have anything to do with this problem. When trying to open the doc, as well as the dialog box, I find in the bottom left hand side of screen the words "Running virus scan"

Hi Simmo,

How are you opening the document? Are you double-clicking it in an
Exploring window such as your Desktop or My Computer?
If so then it could be caused by a problem in your file
association. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Have you disabled the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus? That's a common
cause of this type of problem.

If Norton AV's Office plug-in is switched off, what other add-ins do you
have loading? How about the Works add-in? That one should have been flushed
down the toilet at birth :(

The same thing has been happening to me. Did you find a way to fix it yet?
If i go the start/documents and select a Word document that I want to open,
the same box pops up. I have no opened dialog boxes on my computer. It's
making me crazy!

I have Norton Internet security. Should I start by deselecting the
Office-Add in? Where can I find it?

I have Office Professional 2003...I'm using Windows XP Professional, but I
haven't worked up the courage to insall the XP Service pack 2. I have Norton
Internet Security 2004 that came as a trial with my new Dell computer. (just
bought it in September). I forgot to include this information. I'm only
having this problem with WORD. When I go to Start/douments and select a
recent Excell document, it opens up right away without the dialog box.

I have just removed Windows XP SP2 from my PC as it was causing too many
conflicts for my taste, though it is probably fair to say that I make
greater demands on my PC than most users and I am very careful about
security. However, from Norton, check the options and amongst them you'll
find the Office plug-in, checked by default. Uncheck it.
