Dial-up connection at startup

How do I configure my startup to automatically dial my internet connection? I
have a dsl modem which connects to the exchange automatically, but I still
have to establish a connection to my ISP separately. I've tried adding a
shortcut to the startup folder, but no joy. Any other ideas? My ISP is
Plusnet, I have a Voyager 105 dsl modem and an average connection of around
4.7 mbps.

Your best bet is to get an inexpensive router and have it log on to the DSL
connection. Then, you don't need to worry about your system logging on at
all; in fact you would remove the DSL connection or set it to NOT be
default. The router does the logon and provides your system, whenever it's
on, with the network connection. It should also provide a good layer of
protection, and lets you use more systems on your one DSL account.

If you use the DSL connectoid in startup, choose Properties, and set it to
not prompt for username or password (this is on the 2nd tab). This will
cause it to just launch and connect.

I second what Patrick says - I tried to do the very same thing for someone I
provide support for and couldn't get it to work. We eventually went for a
cheap router as I got fed up with "The server can't be found". "Have you
clicked the "connect" icon"? "Oh no."
