Dial-up Connection again and again

I am connected to the internet via broadband using Widows Vista and Windows
Mail but every time I send an email I get the Dial-up Connection box and have
to click "Connect". I have tried clicking the "Connect automatically" box,
but it doesn't seem to have any effect. How can I stay connected?
Thanks in advance.

In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties,
Connection tab, and make sure the settings there are grayed out, indicating
that IE's settings will be used.

When you open Internet Explorer, does it try to dial? If so, go to either
Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options or Control Panel/Internet Options.
Click on the Connections tab. Make sure "Never dial a connection" is
ticked. In fact, all the dial-up settings should be grayed out, indicating
that Vista recognizes the presence of an Internet connection via the LAN.

Sorry for not coming back sooner. In Windows Mail I go to Tools, Accounts,
select the account, Properties, but although all the other tabs are OK
whenever I click the Connection Tab, Windows Mail "hangs" and has to be
restarted.

Where did you find the ISP properties to change this? In Windows Mail? I am
having the same issue

I don't recognize the settings that Godfrey mentioned.
It sounds like some proprietary connection software.

I am having the same problem. There is nothing in the box to gray out. It is
empty.
I have under LAN to automatically detect the settings. it is still hanging
on connections when I go to accounts/properties/then the connections tab.
Also under Vista Home Premium there is no Advanced or Typical setting unde
the Securities tab.
Sincerely,
Merril

If Windows Mail hangs when you go to the Connection tab, then that
account is corrupted (probably by a non-compatible antivirus).
One thing you might try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted
account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that mail account.
If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.

Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Hi, I have got the same problem.

Windows Mail says it uses the same connection as IE but obviously it
doesn't. I have wireless connection by now. IE works fine. Only Windows Mail
wants to connect the way it did before i had WLAN.

Clicking the Connection Tab it hangs with antivirus software turned off as
well.

OK, no problem, go to tools>accounts>select your
account>properties>connections tab, remove the check mark from "Always
connect using".>apply>OK

WM will now use any available connection.

If Windows Mail hangs when you click the Connection tab, then the
account is corrupted. Delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account.

I did it and it worked ! Easier than trying to troubleshoot. Just wish this
resolve wasn't hidden so well.

Yeah, it took many months of digging to find out what caused that type
of problem. Glad I was able to help.
