dhcp service won't start

Getting error message:
Could not start the DHCP client service on local
computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group
failed to start.

I couldn't get a dsl modem to communicate with the
computer. No IP addresses were being served. I checked
the services>>DHCP and found it wasn't running (although
set on automatic). When I tried to start it I get the
error.

Windows XP Profesional
