Device Manager Drivers

Guest

Looking over the "system device" drivers along with all the other drivers
listed in device manager I noticed most if not all the drivers are dated
07/01/2001.

My question: Are there any current updated drivers available?
Where do you find the updated drivers?
Is there a installer package to update all the listed
device manager drivers?

Thank you for your advice,

You need to have precise descriptions of the devices and then visit the
relevant manufacturers web site.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

Maybe Gerry - who has lots of experience, and answered your question
correctly - would understand your posts better if you would learn to spell.

I fully understood your question. It's just that things are not as you seem
to expect.

You will have drivers provided by Microsoft which are updated as and when
Microsoft
issue updates. Otherwise the system relies on third party drivers. To obtain
third
party drivers you need to know the exact make and model of the device, be it
a
video card, modem or whatever. This is why I gave you the Everest link to
enable
you to find out what you have.

You cannot use a "catch all" installer!

Do you have a particular problem problem with a driver?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Always one clown in the crowd that wants to point to spelling as a way to
make them feel bigger and stronger than everyone else.

Gerry,

Has nothing to do video/sound/modem drivers I know and understand how to
update them. The drivers I am refering to would be the following listed in
the device manager:

Computer
Disk Drives
DVD/CD-ROm drives
Floppy Disk controllers
Floppy disk drives
Human Interface devices
Mice and pointing devices
System devices "all items listed"
USB controllers "all items listed"

all drivers are dated 07/01/2001 - Has MS updated these drivers or can they
be updated?

Thank you,

G

Gerry Cornell

Some have and some have not been updated. Those dated 1 July 2001
are the original drivers provided with Windows XP on it's launch.

The list you have provided are the Headings describing the general nature
of the Device and not the particular device. Thus under Computer on my
Computer is a sub-heading ACPI Multiprocessor Computer, which has
three drivers all updated as part of the SP2 update.

Have you installed the Windows XP SP2 update and later updates?

Do you have yellow question marks in Device Manager? Do you have
other indications of problems with drivers? If yes, please tell us about
them.

What initially created your interest in updating drivers? It is this which
needs to be addressed as a computer has hundreds of drivers and
it is usually not practical to keep track of all driver updates.

Are you getting Warning / Error Reports in Event Viewer?
