Detecting Proxy Server Problem

R

Ron Yuen

I use a VPN connection to access my company's intranet for work purposes.
When ever I use Internet Explorer while on my VPN I get a message "detecting
proxy settings" which causes a delay of up to a minute before navigating to
the web site. Any subsequent IE activity is fine after the initial delay.
When I disconnect from the VPN and then access the web again, I have another
long delay while it detects the proxy settings again. Is there any way to
avoid this annoying delays? I have IE set to automatically detect proxy
settings and I am using WIN2K and IE 6.0. I also have a cable router (LinkSys
BEFSR41) that is connected to my cable modem. Thanks for your help in
advance!

No. Unless you get rid of the Auto-detection.

If you use VPN,...VPN is a dialup technology and each "dialup" connection
has its own separate settings in IE,...so you statically set the proxy in
the browsers proxy settings for that particular "dialup" connection. The
proxy settings you see in the "LAN Settings" in IE is not the ones being
used when you use the VPN.
