Everytime i reboot my desktop has XP Style, even though i go into
DisplaySettings/Appearance and switch to Classic Style (and always hit
"apply").
Am baffled why I cant get this setting to stick. Any idea's would be much
appreciated.

I think you can put the items in one or two grids(if you take the mouse with
left button pressed you can see the configuration of grids) and rightlclick
desktop -arrange icons by-align to grid. try that.

Thankyou for the response, but we're talking about two different things.
My problem is not my icons, its my windows appearance, i cannot make it stay
set on windows classic appearance. Every time i restart my computer it
resorts back to windows XP default appearance.
I go into display properties/appearance tab, change to classic view, hit
apply and all is good, then when i restart computer, its right back to
windows default blue.
I had just reformated (clean install) last week, and i'm thinking maybe
somethings disabled in my services.msc settings.

Mine did the same thing after the latest round of updates. Clearing the
Temp folder put everything back as it was.
Heirloom, old and back to Classic

I have the same problem here. I like the classic style but after a
re-boot the task bar reverts back to the xp blue.My pc is only a month
old and have had this problem from day one. I always hit the apply
button. Why wont the setting stick??
