desktop problems

This question process is even more difficult than the problem I am having.
At the bottom of my desktop screen there is a barr which has the start icon
button and my clock and my internet icon and a few others. This bar has
jumped to the left hand side of my computer screen, while I was on the
internet, and I cannot move it now at all. I have right clicked on
everything but there is nothing mentioning this bar, whatever it is called.
Desktop icons are mentioned but this is not a desktop icons. I don't have a
problem with my desktop icons. Its this bar which has now left my start
button at the top left hand corner of my screen with the bar running down the
left hand side and has completely screwed my desktop and my working. Pls
help.

The bar is called the "Task Bar". Right click on an empty area of the
Task Bar and look at "Lock the Task Bar". If there is a check mark
there, left-click on it to unlock the Task Bar. Now put your cursor on
an empty area of the Task Bar. Hold down the left mouse button and move
the cursor to where you want the Task Bar to be, usually at the bottom
of the screen. Let go of the left mouse button and the Task Bar will
move to the bottom of the screen.

Now right-click on the Task Bar again and then left-click on "Lock the
Task Bar" so it can't be moved again.

This is the Task bar.
Right click on an empty space on the bar itself and make sure that "lock the
taskbar" is not ticked.
then click and drag the bar (again on an empty part) to the bottom middle of
the screen you will see the bar jump to the bottom as you get close.

right click and tick the "lock the taskbar" to prevent accidental moves in
the future.

good luck,
Martin

Thank you all for that. I had tried that several times and it did not work
but I did it more gently and it worked. The only problem is that it is now
about one inch up into my screen reducing the size of my screen. How do I
get the size back down to what it was before. Tried to use the arrow thingys
but it won't reduce. Any suggestions...

Unlock it again (right click an empty part and untick "lock Taskbar") and
drag the edge down to the size you want then lock it again.

Unlock it again. Put your cursor at the top edge. You may see a
two-headed arrow. Drag straight down. Lock it again.

The problems you have had often occur when you select an item on the
Taskbar and move your mouse before letting go of the button.

If the quick launch bar and the task bar are now one above the other,
you'll find you can't resize to the preferred height. In that case,
click the vertical bar to the left of the task bar, and drag it to the
right and up till you have two tall areas. Now you can drag the top of
the taskbar down to size. Lock the taskbar so this won't happen again
(for awhile).
