Desktop Icon Text

M

Matt Zielinski

I have two computers in my house with Windows XP
Professional on them. This is a subtle difference, but
one that I would like to know how to change. On one
computer, the desktop icons' text does not have the
desktop color around it. In other words, the text is
immediately over the desktop background. On the second
computer, the icon text is blocked in by the selected
desktop color, identical to how it has been in previous
versions of Microsoft Windows. How do I make the second
computer like the first, i.e. almost how do I make the
desktop color transparent so that the icon text is not
surrounded by any solid color at all, but rather is just
plain over the desktop wallpaper? Thanks in advance to
any responses.

Hi Matt,

Start/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/ Visual
Effects/"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

Also:

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by. Towards the bottom of
that list, uncheck "Lock web items on the desktop."

Hi Matt,

To set the transparent desktop icons , try this:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Double-click System
3. Select the Advanced tab, and click the Settings button under the
Performance header.
4. Make sure that on the Visual Effects tab, the option Use drop shadows for
icon labels on the desktop is selected.

If this doesn't help, right-click the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By and
make sure that Lock Web Items on Desktop is un-checked.
