Desktop folders

I downloaded some digital pictures from a disk into
folders I created on the desktop. I burned these onto a
CD so now I'm trying to delete the folders with pictures.
The pictures all seem to be gone from the folders but I
get the message " Cannot delete....(name of folder). It
is being used by another person or program. Close any
programs that may be using the file and try again.
Needless to say I've tried this again and again to no
avail. Isn't there some special thing I can press to
override this and delete the folders? I'm frustrated and
need help

Try rebooting, and then try it again. If that doesn't work, create a new
user and logon in it, then delete the folders in the other profiles desktop.
