Desktop computer freezes

Running windows xp he sp3. Lost my operating system, during installation of
a third party program update. Bought a new hard drive, configured it to run
the same win xp he sp3 os, with my original hard drive set as a slave. Have
recovered most of my family pictures, no emails, no mozilla thunderbird
address book, and no to my wife's beauty consultant business program files.

Problem #1: Upon opening my wife's program, i get a message showing a
runtime error '339' : Can't find cscmd32.ocx or cstext32.ocx or one of its
component files, which may not be registered. Believe this to be ActiveX
related. Also, have just read another post here, which says to run >regsvr32
cscmd32.ocx to register it. As well: all ocx files s/b in same folder; ie:
c:\windows\system32\*.ocx .

Problem #2: Related to Problem #1 is my problem of the subject named above;
Computer FREEZE. Freeze-up occurs at the end of a windows search for
exercise. Have to manually power down and re-power the PC.
<Ctrl>,<Alt><Delete> doesn't work or respond, as well as any other keyboard
commands.

Did you reinstall your wife's programme?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Are there any errors in Event Viewer?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Well this sounds very complicated, but I may be able to shed some light on
part of your issue, the computer freezing. First off let us verify the
integrity of the system, I mean let us check for viruses, spyware and
malware. What kind of antivirus software do you have? Run a full virus
scan, The best anti Virus is Avast. It will locate and remove viruses for
you. You can download a free copy from http://www.avast.com . I would
reccommend downloading that, installing it and running a full scan. Then if
you have a malware/spyware program run a full scan with that. I would
reccommend Spware terminator it is a very good free spyware/malware program.
Download it instatall it and run a full scan. Download from
http://www.spywareterminator.com

Next let us clean up XP using the built in Microsoft cleaning and
maintenance tools
One: Open up Internet explorer and select tools. If you have IE7 at the top
you will see an option that says "delete all". Click that and check the
check in the checkbox about other data. This deletes unnesscary files in the
IE cache which stores cached information. If you are on IE6 then go to
tools, internet options and go through and delete everything.
2. Next there is a fantastic cleaning utility that is free and cleans out
unnesscarry files it is called Cccleaner go to http://www.ccleaner.com.
Download it and install it. It has two tabs Windows and applications. Type
Start and type Run. Then type "prefetch". You will see a folder with lots
of files. In the upper left hand cornerner click file and select all. Then
click file delete. On the Windows tab in CC Cleaner hit analyze. This will
show you how much it can delete. The first time it will probably be a lot
(which is a good thing) Then hit run cleaner and ok. Do the same thing on
the application tab.
Next go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disc cleanup.
Select your C drive and wait for it to give you a box with files in it This
catches any files that did not get deleted just check all the checkboxes and
hit ok to delete. Now we will do a defragmentation of your hard drive (a lot
of this is maintenance you should do monthly) Go to start, all programs,
accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter. Click defragment now. This
could take three to four hours initially but you can minimize it and do other
things. Next finally go to start, my computer left click right cick on C,
select properties and tools. You will see two boxes. One says defragmgmeter
which we just did and the says sytem file checker. This checks for bad
sectors on the C disc. Let us run that and have it fix bad sectors
automatically. There are two boxes to be checked her check both where it
says to run and automatically fix errors then click OK. It will tell you it
needs to restart to do this do you want to do it when you restart and say
yes. Make sure everything else is done then restart the computer and the
disk check will run and automatically fix any errors.

My Computer will lock up when I'm on a Website for maybe 5 minutes or more,
such as when I'm editing something on one of my Webpages. Sometimes using
CTRL-ALT-Delete gets me out of the page, but of course I lose whatever is
there. I have run a 'Registry Cleaner', and swept for viruses. The only other
thing I noticed when I went into the 'Device Manager', is I have two items
under 'Other Devices'-SM Bus Controller-Unknown Device', that have yellow
'Question Marks' by them. Could this be the cause of my troubles? If so, how
do I fix this problem?
