I've been trying to change my desktop background. Right click- Set as
background -nothing happens. I go into display properties and do it that
way- the wallpaper changes in the dialog box-press apply nothing happens.
Active desktop is not enabled- I don't use that feature. Help/advice is
appreciated.

The background image has to be a bitmap.
After clicking "Apply", click "OK", - stating the obvious I know, but you
missed
it out of your post, so thought I'd mention it just in case.

I always use .jpeg imags as wallpaper, the current image on my desktop is a
..jpeg file and I never had an issue with it. I tried the .bmps I had and
still had no success.

Thank you for your advice though. :)

The desktop background does not have to be .bmp; you can use .jpg or
even .png. Leelu92 - check to make sure you don't have the background
set to be a webpage. In the Display applet, go to Desktop and then
click the Advanced button. Look on the Web tab and make sure nothing is
checked.

I ran that line- and now the menu to change the background is totally
disabled- I still can't change my background.
