Woo Hoo just received notification Dell FINALLY shipped my Vista update DVD,
noooooow to install or not to install? dismissing the FUD here, I have run
upgrade advisor, removed any offending programs, insured my hardware has
valid drivers (ok ATI 7.2 sucks in XP hopefully not in Vista) I have a dual
core 2.66, 1 gig ram, 256 ATX X1300pro & 320 gigs of SATA drive....I think I
can.

It will probably be fine. There is a lot of noise in this group, mostly
because this is a concentrated group of people with problems. Obviously they
are here because you come here to solve problems, otherwise most people
steer clear.

Remember to back your important files up. That's always good advice.

I suggest you image the XP installation with something like Acronis True
Image Home, version 10, to an external, USB connected drive. Then if
something goes wrong you can restore to XP quickly, and ATI 10 is Vista
compatible.

Yeah, people don't generally show here up to start a new thread saying
something like:

"Vista is GREAT. No problems, whatsoever! It's sooooooo much better
than XP!" ;-)

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

With a hard drive that large, I'd set it up for dual-booting between XP
and Vista. That way you get to choose the best of both worlds.

Second that, Mostly :/

Keep XP around for when you have a %^&* program that is not Vista
Compatible (even in 'Compatibility Mode').
