dell notebook xp home shuts down without warning

My system shuts down without warning. I hear a click
sound then system quits. When I restart it no sign of
improper shutdown. any ideas Dell Inspiron 500e with
XP Home and Office

does it happen more when using specific applications or when you peform a specific tas
how many times a day does it occu
has this always happened or when did it start occurin
when shutting down does your computer give you any indication that it is going to shutdown or give you an error before or afterwar
do you find your computer is excessively hot to the touch, does it need to cool down before it operates for a long period of time agai

the possiblities are numerous but try to answer these questions and you may get a quicker resolutio

some possibilities are
your computer is overheatin
virus, spywar
hardware failure, likely harddisk, bad RAM, power suppl
system power saving settings, hibernation and standby setting
device drivers

Computer gives no warning just shuts down. it does get
hot. happens when on internet. no error messages. just
starts back up immediately when re started. no error
message or windows shutdon inproperly message.
