Deleting styles

How can I delete styles in Word 2007? Clicking on some styles in the styles
panel the delete option is greyed out. By changing the style that the target
style is based upon ungreys the delete option, but when I delete the style
the style remains. I have also tried deleting the style through the manage
style to no avail.

Would you be happy with not having them show in the Style menu? When
you show the old Styles & Formatting panel (with the button at the
lower right of the group on the ribbon), at the bottom it says More,
and that's where you get to the various kinds of Style displays.

Firstly, thanks for the reply, didn't really help though.

I am trying to create some corporate templates and the need is to only
display the styles that they can use. We have some "smarties" who will open
the old style panel and use these other unremovable styles, hence my need to
remove them from this panel.

Re your suggestion, I don't find the More at the bottom of the panel, I only
have a link to Options and the Style Inspector, Manage Styles and New Style
icons. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks

Graham

I don't have it in front of me now so I can't check what labels you
should be seeing. I meanwhile remembered that you can delete styles
using the "Organizer," which IIRC you can access from several points
in the Styles area. When you open it, it shows you the file you're in
on the left, and a template on the right; select the styles you want
to delete on the left, and the Delete button in the middle becomes
available. (But you can't delete the "built-in" styles like Normal and
the numbered Headings.)
