Deleting shortcuts from desktop of uninstalled programs

I have uninstalled a program, but cannot delete the desktop icon. When I try
to delet it a box message box pops up saying "This is not longer located in
C: etc, verify the items location and try again". Of course, I cannot give
the location of the program because it's no longer there.... but the icon
persists.

Usuall when its saying it can't do that because it can't find it, its already
been deleted but still shows on the screen. If this is the case, you can
refresh or reboot and it should be gone. If it still remains, do the
following. Click on Start button, type in Start Search "Windows Explorer",
right click on Windows Explorer and select Run As Administrator. Then
navigate to Desktop and delete the shortcut.

Thanks for the help. I rebooted and opened in safe mode and was able to
delete the icon. Don't know if it was the reboot or the safe mode which did
the trick, but it was one or the other.

Could you try deleting it in Safe Mode?
