Deleting Registry Keys

I am working on Win 2K Pro & using Internet Explorer 6 as the default
browser. I would like to ask whether any serious problems can get generated
(in Win2K or IE6) if the entries Default_Page_URL, Default_Search_URL,
Search Bar, Search Page & Start Page are deleted under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER--->Software--->Microsoft--->Internet Explorer--->Main &
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--->Software--->Microsoft--->Internet Explorer--->Main
from the Registry?

Also cookies created by websites reside in C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. So what is
the directory named Cookies under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator
for? Can this Cookies directory be permanently deleted without any
repercussions?

Thanks,

Arpan
