Deleting items with Rules Wizard Leaves the Envelope (mail)Icon showing in
the System Tray even when no unread items remain in the inbox. How can I
make Outlook remove the envelope icon when its meant to? I am using Outlook
2000 SR-1.

True statement.

Outlook displays the icon when a message arrives in the Inbox. It has no
way of knowing that subsequently a rule is going to move the message out of
the inbox.

This has been "fixed" in 2003, which is unfortunate -- now I have no way of
knowing that I have received a new message when it is moved to one of many
folders unless I just happen to see it.

Add the "display a Desktop Alert" action to your rule.

use the search folder for unread messages.
