Yes it does work .................... but why all this confusion???
WHY MSM Messenger and Windows Messenger ??? Same company is it not
?????? Then why do they conflict / have different version numbers etc
etc etc etc.

I wish to send ANY BLOODY MESSAGE (apart from an e-mail) to a freind
in Germany from me here in the UK ................. surely a SIMPLE
task ?????? We are both fairly computer literate, both 'online' both
'signed up' . Net passports and the like, but can we exchange messages

Greetings Claude,

It should work -- unless you're describing some other Messenger.

To remove Windows Messenger 4.7, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the
messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start
button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7

For Windows Messenger 5, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon
in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then
click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
msiexec.exe /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138}
and then click OK.

For MSN Messenger, simply click the Start button, then Add or Remove Programs, click MSN
Messenger and then click the Remove button.

If you're seeing popups with the "Messenger Service", none of the above Messenger's have
anything to do with what you're seeing. You'll need to disable the Messenger Service, to do
so, click Start, then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger",
select it, right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and
then choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or
any real third-party applications should be effected by this.

Just as a little reminder, make sure you've protected yourself against the latest security
issues by visiting WindowsUpdate and installing the security patches:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
(This isn't related to the Messenger Service in any way, just a reminder)
