Deleted IMAP messages disappear

I must be missing something obvious.
Outlook 2007 on XP with an IMAP email account.
When I delete messages from my inbox, they show the strikethrough but only
for a while. After about 30-60 seconds, the message disappears from the
inbox completely. Message also disappears completely from the server when I
access via webmail. Current view in Outlook is set to "IMAP Messages". I am
not purging.
What could be causing the "auto permanent delete"?
Annoying as messages that I thought I would still have access to are gone....

Sorry I can't help, but I am having exactly the same problem on multiple
computers, both with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 (I think).
My provider is Godaddy (via imap.secureserver.net). I have a suspicion that
it's related to Godaddy, but I asked via email support and they disavow
knowledge.
By any chance is your provider Godaddy too?

Nope. Provider is Telus, but I've been thinking that the back end provider
may be the issue also.

I contacted Godaddy again about this and got back the response below.
I'm not sure I believe what they say. Outlook can't be silly enough to purge
messages that are marked for deletion all by it self can it?
Does anyone out there have a setup using outlook with IMAP that does NOT
behave the way that 'imapper' and I are seeing it.
I agree with the support guy that they should show up with the line through
them, but NOT that outlook will automatically PURGE them.

Here's what Godaddy support said:

"Thank you for contacting Online Support. Please be advised that this is how
Outlook works. The line through it is 'marked for deletion', it's a client
side thing within Outlook. It marks the messages then purges them, we
apologize for the confusion caused."

I thought I remember seeing that Outlook 2007 has the ability (and an an
option to control it) to purge deleted messages from IMAP accounts when you
close it.

You are correct. Godaddy does delete your messages after about a minute,
when you mark them as deleted via IMAP.
