deleted emails from server

I have a laptop and a computer, with email set up on both using Outlook 2007.
I believe I have my laptop set up correctly to leave a copy of email
messages on the server until I delete then from "deleted items." This option
is checked on the Options/Mail Setup/Email Accounts/[SELECT MY EMAIL
ACCOUNT/Change email accounts/More settings/Advanced tab. But when I return
to my desktop after a long trip, having deleted many emails from the 'deleted
items' folder (and closing outlook and even rebooting the computer numerous
times), every single email I received during the trip still loads into my
desktop version of Outlook.

What am I doing wrong? THANKS!

Thanks. Sounds like I"m just stuck with the situation, since I delete the
mail while online. My server is Earthlink.

You need to delete the mail while online but it doesn't work well with some
mail servers.
