delete tif folder

Running XP Home using NTFS. It seems that my Temporary Internet Files folder is damaged as the entries in the folder are no longer automatically deleted when IE is closed. I am aware that in Windows 98 I can go into DOS and delete the folder through the deltree tempo~1 command. How do I delete this folder in NTFS. If there is a way could you please be specific as I am obviously a novice.
Thank you

Have you checked to see if the files are being deleted or not? Internet
Options> General> Temporary Internet Files> Settings> View Files will show
you cookies (not stored in the TIF folder!) and the files that are stored
in TIF. You can delete things manually here.

In Windows Explorer, your TIF folder is under Documents and Settings\<your
account>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. This is a hidden folder
so you will have to change Folder Options> View to show hidden files and
folders to see it.

Cookies are stored in Documents and Settings\<your account>\Cookies. These
will not delete when you accept the defaults that come up clicking Delete
Files. Also cookies will not delete if you set the browser to delete the
cache on closing.

I have my browser setup to delete the cache when IE is closed but I retain
history and cookies. Also AutoComplete retains URLs that I have typed
and/or visited. These things can be cleared too but it requires extra
steps.

Thank you.Sharon, for taking the time to reply. I too have the browser set up to empty the cache when the browser is closed. The problem is that it will not do so unless I reboot.

Does this work?

Empty your Temporary Internet Files and shrink the size it stores to about
80 to 120MB (seems to be an optimal size for the normal user)
- Open ONE copy of Internet Explorer.
- Select TOOLS -> Internet Options.
- Under the General tab in the "Temporary Internet Files" section,
do the following:
- Click on "Delete Cookies" (click OK)
- Click on "Settings" and change the
"Amount of disk space to use:" to something between 80MB
and 120MB. (Betting it is MUCH larger right now.)
- Click OK.
- Click on "Delete Files" and select to
"Delete all offline contents" (the checkbox) and click
OK. (If you had a LOT, this could take 2-10 minutes or
more.)
- Once it is done, click OK, close Internet Explorer
- Re-open Internet Explorer.

Thanks for trying Shenan. Did as you suggested the cache is still not emptied when the browser is closed. Interestingly, for me, when I deleted the cookies out of the Temporary Internet Files folder that also deleted the cookies in the cookie folder. I thought the ones in the Tif folder were just copies of the ones in the cookie folder, oh well.

Doh. Sorry. I'll do some research and see if anything else comes up.

Shenan, by accident I discovered the cause of my problem. When I have Kazaa
Lite running my cache will not delete the files it contains automatically
when I close IE. Yet when Kazaa Lite is not running closing IE will empty
the cache folder, except for the cookies of course. It is far beyond me to
explain why that happens :). In any case, thanks again for trying
