delete all contacts from pda

My son has given me his HTC mobile/pda. He has all his contacts. (1000 or so)
I wish to delete all these and synchronize with my outlook. I have only 125 I
had set activesync to sycn with my pc but just adds these. How can I delete
all the contacts and start fresh? Any help appreciated
