defragmenter

john

does anyone know why windows says i have 57% disk space
available but only 3% is available to disk defragmenter.
And that the defrag utility needs 15% free space to run
properly. Do you want to continue?
Thanks in advance

John,

Free space on NTFS is located in 2 different areas - inside of the MFT
Reserved Zone and outside of the MFT Reserved Zone. Microsoft's defrag APIs
under Windows 2000 do let defragmenters use the free space inside of the MFT
Reserved Zone. Free space outside is what is usable by defragmenters.
