DEFRAG

System will still not run Defrag, have tried going to the Command Prompt and
doing it from there.

I have typed in CHKDSK C

then

Defrag C

I get this message:

The volume identifier is not valid. The volume indetifier must be a valid
local drive letter or mount point.

Usage:
Defrag <volume> [-a] [-f] [-v] [-?]
volume drive letter or mount point <d: or d:\vol\mountpoint>
-a Analyze only
-f Force defragmentation even if free space is low
-v Verbose output
-? Display this help text

I have 65% free space on disk.

Thanks your any suggestions

Just out of interest, open the disk manager
(diskmgmt.msc from the RUN box)

What is the drive letter specified in there.
What is the status ?

C is the drive letter,

I get a message that the connection to the defragmenter engine has been
lost. Restart defragmentation from the command line as shown below, or run
Disk Defragmenter from Windows.

For some reason I cannot post a reply to your question, trying again.

Never could get the defrag to work. Computer again shut down and rebooted
itself. Have reinstalled XP, downloading SP2 right now.

Thanks for trying to help me.

Regards
