Defrag no longer works!

After installing update SP3 on my XP Home system, MSN Explorer took about 5
minutes to open because Windows Installer took its time! As MSN Explorer was
needed to access my Hotmail accounts, I decided enough was enough and
uninstalled SP3. It's back to normal now and opens on the click!
However, the disc defragmenter no longer works and shows the following
message:
MCC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc.
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC
console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may
also be because you do not have sufficient rights to the file.

Have searched for dgfrg.msc. and only found four dfrgf files.

Please help me as I don't even know what MMC is and how can I correct this
problem? - Thank you - Andrew

When you installed SP3 it migrated the MMC ( Microsoft
Management Console ) to version 3.0. Once you removed
SP3 the system doesn't roll back the MMC. The simplest
solution is to update MMC for use with Service Pack 2.

Thanks for that Mac, but far too complicated for me - think I'll dump this
PC, buy a laptop and wait a good six months before updating Vista - just as I
did with SP2.
A friend mentiioned there is an issue with my AMD chip and a patch should
have been installed before updating to SP3! - now they tell me!! All too late
now as I've buggered it up completely - or maybe it was MS fault!! Thanks
anyway - A
