Default Search Engine

I have a HP Pavilion running XP Home and IE 6.
I want to change the default search engine to Google
and/or Alta Vista.
If I hit "Search" the Customize button only brins up a
full page search via HP's engine.

How do I get the options to change and prioitize searchs
and meta searches I've seen on other computers?

You don't need anything from anyone else to make google
your search start page.go>start\search\change
preferences\change internet search beahviour and then
choose google as your start. I have XP HE V5.1 Build2600
SP1.020828-1920 and have 12 search engines to choose from.

Open internet explorer and click search to show the search pane. Click
customise.
From the window that appears, you can select a search service for all
searches or specific tasks.
