In outlook all of a sudden I'm getting this erro on wo user's machine. We
are connecting to an Exchange Server. In outlook in options outlook is set
as the defualt mail client.

The error is:

Either there is no default mail cleint or the current cleint cannot fulfill
the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the

Any ideas on this error.

Hi George,

Thank you for posting here!

Based on my research, this issue may occur due to an incorrect setting of
the default email client or if the Outlook registry key is corrupted.
Please try the following suggestions to troubleshoot this problem:

Step 1: Check Internet Explorer option
-----------------------------
1. Click the Start menu -> Control Panel.
2. Double click Internet Options.
3. On the Programs tab, please help me make sure that Microsoft Office
Outlook is selected in the E-mail list.

If this issue still occurs, please go to next steps.

Step 2: Use the /checkclient switch
-----------------------------
1. Close all applications.
2. Click Start -> Run.
3. Type "Outlook /Checkclient" (Quotation marks are not included and there
is a space between Outlook and /Checkclient) and press Enter.

Note: If a message "Outlook is not currently your default program for
E-mail, Calendar and Contacts. Would you like to make it the default
program?" pops up, please click "Yes".

Step 3: Modify related registry keys
-----------------------------
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Close all programs.
2. Click Start menu -> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box, and press Enter.
3. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail
4. Make sure the following value as below:

Name Data
Default Microsoft Outlook

5. If the keys are already correct, please first export it as .reg file as
a backup.
6. After this, clear the value of Default.
7. Quit Registry Editor.
8. Repeat "Step 1" to reset Outlook as the default email client.

More information is documented in the following Microsoft KB article:

813745 "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=813745

Step 4: If this issue persists, please let me know the version of your
operation system and Outlook.
-----------------------------

I hope the information above is helpful.

Please try the suggestions above and let me know the results at your
earliest convenience. I'm looking forward to your reply.

Have a good day!

Thanks & regards,

Winfred Weng
