Decouple Defender updates from Windows Updates

I would like to have Windows Defender download and install its definitions
whenever they are available. However, I don't want Windows updates installed
without being able to look at them first. Is there any way to do this? If
not, it is rather worrying that I have to tie my Defender updates to how I
want to handle my Windows updates. They're not the same thing.

I hear you, but the only way I see to make this choice now is to not install
automatically, and to always use the non-express method when you go to
install updates, and pick and choose.

This is my setup:
Security Center
Automatic Updates
Notify me but don't automatically download or install them.
So always I know what is D/L
