DCOM Error

Don

I am receiving the following DCOM error in my Event Viewer.
Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The
server is:{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable.

I am using W2K Pro. I only receive these errors when I am
connected to the Net. I do not seem to be having any
issues at this time. Any suggestions on what may be
causing and/or how to resolve this error???

Try this and let me know if it resolves the issue:
1. Export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
from the registry
2. Delete the above key
3. Repair Microsoft Word

I completed the steps you suggested but to no avail. I
still receive the same error message in the Event Viewer.
Any other ideas?

Thanks
Don

You could probably get around the error by setting the COM+ component to
not require authentication
1. Start > Run > dcomcnfg
2. Select the properties for {00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} (it
might say Microsoft Word Document)
3. Set the Authentication Level to "None"
....bear in mind that this is reducing the security of COM+ component, but
I am not sure if this will cause any problems

Alternatively, you could use Regmon (from www.sysinternals.com) to find the
source of the "Access Denied" (if there is any)

Hi Don,
I was just wondering if the steps I outlined (regarding dcomcnfg) were
useful.
Let me know if you can, because I know of someone else who is having this
problem too.
You can email me directly, just remove the "online".
