Day 3 of NOD32 trial

I thought I'd post my experience to share with others and invite
comments.

I've been running Norton Internet Security 2003, but its subscription
will expire soon. I didn't really want to renew or upgrade to NIS 2004
because:

a. I was getting tired with various problems with the Rescue disk and
getting URL updates for the parental control that, after working with
Symantec's web site and email support, ended up with the advice "un-
install and re-install everything".
b. if I renew the subscription, Symantec will drop support for 2003 when
2005 comes out in the fall.
c. if I go for the upgrade, I'll have to deal with the new activation
system. I run a dual-boot Windows 98 and Windows 2000 system, so this
would probably require me to buy 2 licenses :-(
d. I wanted to see if there were other AV programs that would do the job
with smaller resources. My sister-in-law runs a Dell Celeron 700 with
64MB RAM that's already quite slow running Norton Systemworks 2002. I'm
going to put more RAM in it, but I've been told NIS 2004 would slow it
down even more.

So, I did some research, and decided to try the NOD32 30-day trial. On
July 14, I removed NIS on the Win98 partition and installed NOD32. THE
NEXT DAY, it let an email into Outlook 2000 titled 'Re: Thank you!'.
Examining further, it looked like some W32.Beagle variant. Since I'm
running Outlook 2000 SP3, it wouldn't let me access the attachment
(readme.cpl), so I wasn't infected. Using the NOD32 on-demand scanner on
the Outlook database didn't detect it. Runing Norton Antivirus on the
Windows 2000 side didn't help, since it can't scan the Outlook database.
At this point the trial was very disappointing!

Today, after getting today's update, the NOD32 on-demand scanner detected
the Win32/Bagle.AF.dropper worm in the suspect email. Wow! I decide to
try a new anti-virus product, and the next day I get a virus email that's
so new there's no signatures out for it yet! I get so few viruses that I
wasn't sure my 30-day trial would get anything at all. I've never got a
fresh virus before.

By the way, does anyone know if I can use 1 NOD32 license on my dual-boot
system?

When I was shopping for NOD32, I E-mailed sales and asked if I could
use NOD32 on more than one computer with only one license. I was told
yes, if I used only one computer at a time. I have NOD32 installed on
three computers.

Many users report that they can use more than 1 computer in the same..


one prirate license use for 10,000 users.. and it will disable every
month.
