date navigator keeps disappearing

Hi,
The first time that I open the calendar after starting Outlook (2002), the Taskpad uses the entire column, so that the Date Navigator is not shown. If I click "View > Current View", I see that "Day/Week/Month" is checked. If I select that option anyhow, the Date Navigator appears. But when I exit Outlook, the next time I restart it, the Date Navigator is gone again. Any idea how to make it stick? Thanks,
