'Datalinking' Access and Excel

I use a software package that collects real-time data from instruments. The
package came with an Excel Add-In that allows the data to be archived in
datasheets by changing the date and time. If the data is imported into an
Access database does it create a permanent link to Excel or just acts as
copy-paste? (ie: will the Access value automatically update if the
corresponding value is updated in Excel?)

I am using Access/Excel 2007, so am not sure if this works in 2003, but I
think so (not sure which version you are using).

But for me, when I link an excel table to Access, the changes to the excel
file are reflected in the linked table, in Access. This would not be true if
you are doing an "import" which would result in the "static data" situation
you appear to wish to avoid.
