D:\is not accessible

The error message D:\is not accessible is of two types:

D:\is not accessible. I/O device error or
D:\is not accessible. Incorrect function

These messages occur when I insert a blank CD-RW. Yet the drive will accept
some music CDs and some CDs containing down loaded files.

Appreciate your help.

This sounds like a CD drive that's gone marginal. I recommend
you try a new one. They don't cost much. Ask your dealer for
assistance if unsure.

Hi,

I wouldn't completely completely agree with Pegasus. I suggest we try some
steps before we come to a conclusion. Pegasus might be correct. Please try
the steps provided below to check Windows permission:

STEP1:

Please follow the MS article: 891894

Please click on the web link for you to open the web article that is listed
above:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=891894

STEP2:
NOTE: In order to use these steps, you must have administrative privileges
and sharing has to be enabled.

1. Remove any discs from the drive.

2. Ensure that simple file sharing is not set:

a. Double-click My Computer, and click Tool from the menu
bar.

b. Select Folder Options, and click the View tab.

c. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of Advanced
Settings and remove the checkmark from Use simple file sharing.

d. Click OK.

3. Open My computer, right-click the drive containing a disc, and select
Properties.

4. Click the Sharing tab (Share this folder should be selected), and then
click the Permissions button.

5. If you cannot see a sharing tab, select your logon name under Groups and
user names. If you can not find it, then select Everyone.

6. Make sure that Deny is not selected next to read. If it is, select Allow
and the drive should work.

7. Click OK to close the window.

I suggest you to contact PC manufacturer if this does not work.

There are even more possibilities, e.g. the "iPod Syndrome" suggested
in the post "CD Drive unreadable", posted in this newsgroup some
two hours ago.
