D Drive

I can't get my CD-ROM drive to work. I put in the disc and the little disc
icon pops up as if it is going to read the disc and then it tells me to
insert disc. I open it and close it again, hoping it will do something, but
it does not. Can someone help me with this?

When was the last time it worked? has it ever worked? Is the disk shiny
side down? Does it do that with all CD's? New problem, maybe the laser
needs cleaning or has failed.

Either use a standard CD cleaning kit to see if this will clean the laser
sufficiently or replace the drive.

Yes it worked, but it stopped working a few months ago! Yes the shiny side is
down when I put it in. All of my CD's and discs have labels on them.

Thanks I will try and clean it first and if that does not work I will take
your advice and replace the drive.

Try The Windows XP TweakUI powertoy to disable the autoplay feature on the
CD/DVD drives, may be part of the problem..
Tried it myself and Nero InCD now sees my DVD/CD-RW media as Pink instead of
solid blue, DVD/CD-R is seen as RAW or blue as I would expect since
disabling the inbuilt, your results may vary..
