Customizing Vista Installation

D

DreadStormâ„¢

Lemme give ya some background before I ask. But then, by the time I ask,
you'll probably know what I'm getting at.

My XP installation is completely customized. ALL the way. I tweaked the
registry in such a way that it thinks Program Filed is defaulted to
D:\Program Files. The default My Documents folder is rigged to be at
E:\Documents. and the only thing on the C:\ drive is the main operating
system only. No programs or anything except that which is within Windows
itself. And it runs orgasmically fast, with that kind of setup. (I've noted
over the years that the C: boot drive is always the slowest, running at
perhaps 1/3 it's potential speed as opposed to drive D: and so on.)

My multipart question is this:
1) Can Vista be customizable in like manner, and
2) WTF is all that other junk that's in your user folder? What happened to
a simple "My Documents"? Now ya got 50 folders that do nothing but take up
space. What's the deal there?

My company already refuses Vista just on principal. But I bought a copy a
while back, and I'm wracking my brain trying to customize it. I've never been
a conformist, and I tend to tweak things far more than most people would
consider sane. Hence my beef with those useless folders in my Documents. I'd
like to either relocate or remove them completely if possible.

For the Documents folder
C:\Users\<user id>\Documents

Rt Click Orb
Properties
Enable Start Menu instead of Classic Start Menu
Click OK

Click Start Menu(Orb)
Scroll to and Rt. Click Documents\Properties
Click on the Location Tab

Options are available to
a. Enter a new folder name(if not already created a dialog box should appear, click yes to create, then ok)
b. Move(click move, select a folder, then Ok till complete)

The same can be accomplished for the Pictures and Music folder.

Note:
If you use iTunes..follow the iTunes instructions for relocating iTunes 'My Music\iTunes' Album Artwork, iTunes Music etc folders..
