Custom UI Download Error

When I try to open any message I get: Custom UI Runtime Error in Microsoft
Access Outlook Add-in for Data Collection and Publishing. An error occurred
while calling the callback: "Ribbon_GetDCVisible". I did not create this COM
Add-in and I have deselected it so I no longer get the error message but I'd
like to know what this Add-in is and should it work. I have Office 2007
Ultimate version.

The final version - from Best Buy.

Are you running the final/RTM version or a beta version?

While debugging performance issues, I disabled all addins. Once it was seen
that Outlook 2007 still sucked when receiving pop emails, the addins were
restored to their previous state. Now I get the error indicated by the
original poster and just like him, disabling the Access Outlook Add-in for
Data Collection and Publishing has resulted in the error disappearing.
Thankfully I don't have any Access applications that require this
functionality so I'm not to concerned.

However, this looks like another bug that requires fixing ASAP.

I would appreciate an answer to my original question.

That particular add-in is not designed to be activated manually in
Outlook. If you go into Outlook's Trust Center, Add-Ins and activate it
manually there, the error you see is expected.
This particular add-in needs to be activated from Access. Once you start
the process from Access as described in the article then the add-in will
be automatically activated in Outlook and will work without this error
message.

Okay so that is a bug in Outlook. It shouldn't be possible for the Outlook
user to alter configuration settings that breaks things!

Thanks Patrick, working part through the solutions indicated on the webpage
I supplied above does indeed restore whatever link up their is between
Outlook and Access and makes the error disappear.

THIS IS BUG IMHO.

It's not a bug in Outlook. The Access add-in is simply an add-in and
Outlook gives the user full control over add-ins. I'd say it is not the
greatest programming of the Access add-in, because the developer didn't
anticipate the situation in which a user starts it manually instead of
via the Access wizard.

Hello Patrick,

Your description of the situation is the exact definition of a BUG.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bug

Never mind, as long as the developers fix this problem in a future patch or
service pack.

Okay let's call it a bug in the Access plugin :-D.

I'd say it is a bug as I did not activate it. It activated itself as part of
the install process.

Sounds like a good idea :)

fyi,

I'm experiencing this problem as well with Office 2007 / Access 2007 /
Outlook 2007. Here is some additional information, in case Microsoft reads
this:

1) I never got this on my computer with 1GB of memory installed... only the
one with 512k.

2) It only happens when I'm running Access and Outlook at the same time.

3) It only started happening after the first time I tried to use the "create
outlook task" for a saved export in Access.

4) I never tried to set anything up in Outlook related to the Access
add-in. I think Access did it for me.

5) Even though I get a pop-up error message, after I close it, everything
with Outlook seems to keep functioning normally. I haven't however, tested
it to see if that actual task created from Access works.
