Hello,
I recently got a used Compaq computer (for a child, for home use) which
came with Windows XP installed, and a valid sticker for the original XP
product key. Because the original Windows XP was SP1 only, and I
wanted to short-cut the patching process, I used a corporate edition XP
CD with all recent patches already applied which I had to re-install XP
on the (blanked at purchase) hard drive.
I was concerned when I found I could not properly validate XP with my
product ID, but lo and behold, I found out that XP's Windows Genuine
Advantage software on the Windows patch site was able to patch my
system to accept my valid individual Compaq machine product key. I am
grateful for this.
I would now like to create a version of the corporate CD that will be
compatible with my product key, in case I have to re-install in the
future. Is there a way to do this? Would it be enough to simply make
a copy of the CD but change the \i386\setupp.ini file on the cd to fit?
