Custom desktop icon

Is there any way to create custom desktop icons?

(Note, I'm NOT referring to creating a shortcut. I want to create an icon
like My Computer, My Network Places, or Internet Explorer.)

Or is there a way to make it so that the Internet Explorer icon starts up a
different browser?

Richard--

Not sure what you mean in the first question. There are a lot of
applications for making custom icons--you have only to search for "custom
icons." Microangelo is one, for example if you want to create icons.

You say you're not referring to shortcuts--so you must mean creating
desktop *system* icons. Not sure what you want to do there. There are
many icon extractors to exchange with your shortcut icons. There are
favicons that you can extract from web sites and exchange.

If you mean making the IE icon start a different browser, I would just
download the browser if you haven't already, and right click the shortcut
to that particular browser, Opera, Mozilla, Avant, and then sub the "e" with
slight variation for internet explorer which can be found in the
shell32.dll folder using the change icon dialogue box.
