Thanx in advance for any help with this question. I have
2 computers..one with Win XP Pro and another running Win
98 SE. How do I set up a connection with a crossover
cable to transfer data between the two ?

It depends: if you only want a one-time network to, say, copy
stuff from your old W9x PC to your new XP PC, then just plug the
crossover cable into your NICs, reboot, run XP's Network "Wizard"
and follow the directions.

If you want to use both PCs forever and you want both PCs to access
the 'net, the you have some choices; for a hardware overview, see -
http://home.comcast.net/~bobwbsgs/homenet.txt. For any choice,
XP's Network "Wizard" should suffice to create the network layers
for your needs.
