Crop Tool in MSO XP

Does anyone know why the crop tool is greyed out when I insert images into a power point presentation using MSO XP. All the other tools are available

Mine is not here. How are you inserting the pictures?

If you are inserting the pictures as a background for an autoshape, then the
crop tool is not available. I think this is the method used by the Photo
Album tool. Does this fit with what you are experiencing?
